As noted, ALL staff and families must follow our safety procedures. Student pick-up will take place outside of school for ALL students.
All parents/guardians coming to check out their child for the day must check in at the office before their child is released.
Austin ISD Guidelines for the 2022-2023 school year:
During after-school pick-up, parents and parent guardians will be allowed to:
- Pickup their child(ren) at their school's designated campus pick-up areas.
All students will be dismissed at 3:10 p.m. Every student must have specific plans for transportation home. Contact your child's teacher for information about the Extend-A-Care program that provides after-school care beginning at 3:10 p.m. at Dawson for a sliding-scale fee based on income. If you arrive by car, PLEASE TURN RIGHT TO ENTER THE CAR RIDER LANE FROM HAVANA. This should keep traffic moving on S. 1st Street. According to District policy, cars may NOT double park or park and leave the car in the fire lane. AISD police monitor this process and may issue tickets. Anybody blocking the traffic flow will be asked to move along for the safety of students walking and loading into cars.
Parents who wish to park and walk to pick-up will need to park on Powell Circle. Students will be released from the back door closest to the Gym. Students will not be released to parents in the car rider line who are not in a car. Walking between cars is a serious safety concern.
Day-care bus riders will be picked up at the North parking lot.
Students will not be allowed to play unsupervised on the playground or to reenter the building after dismissal. All teachers and most staff members are outside from 3:00 - 3:15 p.m., therefore, there is no one available to monitor student safety inside the building.
Buses will pick up students in the north drive.
Drivers in the north parking lot along Powell should use great care in parking in that location from 2:45 - 3:15 p.m. Buses pickup in this drive and may block cars trying to depart. Cars MAY NOT stop in this lot unless to park in a visitor's space. Do not drive around a bus while parked and/or loading students.
At 3:25 p.m., all students waiting to be picked up will be brought to the office for log-in and assistance by our office staff. Children must be picked dup from school on time. While the office staff is always available to assist children, they are not responsible for after-school car for children who are not picked dup within a reasonable period of time. If you have difficulty arriving at school by dismissal time, you may consider enrolling your child in Extend-a-Care.
Please note that there is no one available to supervise students after school yours. The school day ends at 3:10 p.m., and all students must be picked up from school on time.
