Social Emotional Learning—or SEL—helps students successfully develop personal strengths including grit, tenacity, perseverance and a positive academic mind set. When these concepts are promoted, students possess the basic competencies, work habits, and values for career and life.
Through social emotional learning, students learn about the brain, their emotions, and how to resolve conflict. The Mindfulness Path allows students to practice cultivating awareness of what is happening within and around them.
SEL is taught in the classroom by the classroom teacher. The concepts of SEL are reinforced within the regular guidance instruction from the counselor.
Behavioral competences your child will work on include:
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social awareness
- Relationship skills
- Responsible decision making
