As we get back into the school routine, student safety is a priority, particularly during our school morning arrival and dismissal times. The following procedures ensure each child's safety and assist you in dropping off or picking your child as possible. Our routines are designed in consultation with district Safety personnel and administration and must be followed explicitly by ALL staff and families.
Your part in ensuring the safety of all of our children is ESTREMELY important, so please read the procedures carefully and make SPECIFIC plans about a set routine for morning arrival and after-school pick-up. The attached map should help you plan and talk with your child about where and when you will meet each day.
Arrival
The school doors open at 7:15 a.m. The front doors (south side of the building) are the ONLY doors for main school access. Other doors will NOT be opened, and parents should NOT ask personnel inside the building to break the rules and open them. Children cannot be on campus or school grounds without a parent before 7:15 a.m. There are no adults to supervise children before this time.
Austin ISD Guidelines for the 2022-2023 school year:
During morning drop-off, parents and parent guardians will be allowed to:
- Walk their child(ren) up to the designated campus entrances at their school.
Parents and guardians will not be allowed to walk children to their classrooms.
The front circle drive, which can be entered from Havana Street, is a one-lane drive-through to drop off students. Cars should enter this parking lot from Havana, continuing through and exiting onto 1st Street. If you pull into the parking lot in the lane away from the sidewalk where students are dropped off, you MUST drive through. If you must park and get out of your vehicle, you CANNOT leave your vehicle in the drive-through lane. This blocks the flow of traffic and risks safety. You must find a visitor's parking spot if you need to park and get out of your car.
Please follow the City of Austin signs that designate legal parking areas on Havana Street south of the school.
The north side drive, which can be entered from 1st street, is a one-way parking lot. Buses utilize this drive/parking lot before and after school. Please plan accordingly as the buses may block cars trying to leave. This parking lot should be used when dropping students off after 7:40 a.m.
At arrival, students should report to the following areas:

Students will wait in these areas until 7:30 a.m. before walking to their classrooms for Breakfast in the Classroom. Students are not permitted to go to a teacher's classroom before 7:30 a.m.
Students arriving late/after 7:40 a.m. will need to be walked into the office using the school doors at the front of the school (not the south entrance) to be checked in. Please do not leave your child at the south entrance or ask a staff member to open that door.
